Traralgon MarathonAustralia Traralgon Victoria Marathon June " The Traralgon Marathon was conceived as a way of reinforcing the Traralgon Harriers distance running focus. It would give the club recognition amongst the distance running fraternity, as well as providing a focus for its own club members training and racing aspirations. The 30KM King of the Mountain race to Mt Tassie run every September complemented the marathon. They must surely be effective incentives, as few clubs could boast as many sub-3 hour marathoners as Traralgon Harriers.Geoff Watt again was one of the earliest supporters of the marathon idea. In his view, the formula to success was to look after the runners on the road with well stocked “feeding stations” (drinks, confectionery and medical supplies), and for plenty of soup and sandwiches at the finish, with good hot showers as well."
PERTH MARATHON Perth MarathonAustralia Perth Marathon June "The West Australian Marathon Club was founded on 13th July 1970. Only a small amount of the course will be run on sealed roads. The running surface will consist mainly of the famous ""red earth"" that can be found all over central Australia, and stunning views of Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) are waiting for you around almost every corner. Setting off in a South-Westerly direction from the start/finish area, the ground underfoot turns from a graded bush road to a genuine bush fire-trail, with a combination of packed and soft, red earthy sand underfoot. After approximately 3km you will cross Uluru road and turn North-West for another 3km. Look out for stunning views of Kata Tjuta (The Olga's) on your left."
Tony Ireland Holden Townsville MarathonAustralia Townsville Marathon August " The Townsville Marathon Club was formed in 1972 by about a dozen runners to promote distance running in Townsville.Initially all club members had to be registered with QAAA. After a couple of disagreements between QAAA and the Townsville Marathon Club, the committee decided that the club could function quiet well without QAAA and so withdrew in about 1975.At the inception of the club, there were not a lot of distance runners in Townsville and so the ""marathon"" word was seen as a challenge. However, the running boom was just starting and the word marathon in the club name frightened a lot of potential members from joining the Townsville Marathon Club. In the early 1980's the name of the club was changed to the Townsville Road Runners."
