Lantau Mountain MarathonChina Hong Kong Marathon January "The half marathon course is the shortest and easiest of all the half marathon courses in the series. While portions take place on steep ground, the entire race course covers major trails only. The full marathon course, on the other hand, offers some of the most remote sections in the series and the most testing climbs. The descent from Pok To Yan to Tung Chung is particularly steep and rough. The vegetation on the ensuing climb to Ngong Ping (Big Buddha) is quite overgrown in places. The climb up Lantau Peak from Ngong Ping is particularly arduous. Although the trail will be marked with white arrows, runners should pay particular attention near Tung Chung due to the construction work which threatens to wipeout the best laid markings. Additionally there are a couple of other turning points on the full marathon course which are difficult to mark and have caused problems in the past"
"China Coast Marathon & Half Marathon, 10K Corporate Challenge"China Hong Kong Marathon January "AVOHK is best-known among local runners for this marathon, which was first held in 1981 and won by Ron Hill in a time of 2:34:35. . Ron termed it the toughest marathon he'd run. Well, Ron wouldn't have liked today's course, because it's now even tougher, taking runners to the end of the High Island Reservoir twice. The course includes challenging hills and although the ambient temperature is generally around 18 degrees, the humidity can make it difficult to achieve fast times. It is now run entirely on a WSD service road route within the Sai Kung Country Park, along with a half marathon and the Community Chest's 10km Corporate Challenge. The current course record is 2:38:44 set by Kevin Ball in 1989 which reflects the difficulty of the terrain, a hilly course around Hong Kong's second-largest reservoir. Despite this the race offers a welcome alternative to the boredom, pollution and lifelessness of the HKAAA's Standard Chartered Marathon and its shorter fun run siblings. The events are organised by runners for runners and AVOHK hope that all participants feel welcome. Organised alongside the Community Chest's 10K and Half Marathon Corporate Challenge, which raises funds for disadvantaged groups in Hong Kong the China Coast was the first internationally AIMS-certified marathon in Hong Kong . Runners from Hong Kong and overseas return again and again for its friendly atmosphere and finisher souvenirs. There is an entry limit of 3,000 accross all the events to ensure all runners have a safe and enjoyable run."
Hong Kong Mountain MarathonChina Hong Kong Marathon January "Portions of the trail are on steep and rough ground. Only a few portions are overgrown. The section past General Rock heading up to Mt. Parker on the full marathon course is particularly steep and rough and can be quite slippery. Both the full and half marathon courses also go down a sandy slope and through a stream beginning about 3 km after the water stop. If it has rained recently, it will be slippery. Be prepared for rough, outback conditions; despite the close proximity to civilization, this is a mountain trail race! Although the trail will be marked with green arrows and green and white ribbons, previous history suggests that there are a few common places where runners lose the trail"
