| Buitoni Connemara International Marathon | Ireland | | Connemara | Marathon | April | "Comprising of a Half Marathon, a Full Marathon and a 39.3 mile Ultra Marathon all taking place on the one day in late March or early April. Entry fee for 2010 is ?70.00(Euro). The 2009 event attracted a sell out of 3,600 entries with representation from 31 Countries. The 2010 event will take place on April 11th. The key to the event's success has been its ability to offer a unique package of experience. The popular sport of long-distance running is transformed for runners and walkers in the dramatic setting of mountains, glacier lakes, rugged green-brown landscape which winds in and around the challenging mountain wilderness of Galway in the west of Ireland. The course meanders past bogs, hills, lakes, and the Twelve Pin mountains rising up over the great expanse of Killary Lough, through the quiet village of Leenane, around the Maam Turk Mountains and all the way back up to Maam Cross. International participants enjoy the Irish welcome, the sense of comradeship on the lonely route and unmistakable buzz throughout the day. No other sporting event sends people away with such a taste of Ireland and all its highlights." |

| Cork City Marathon | Ireland | | Cork | Marathon | June | "Monday 4th June 2007 saw the revival of the Cork City Marathon. It was the first marathon in 21 years in the city and the people of Cork welcomed the event back with tremendous enthusiasm. The city centre was packed with supporters and throughout the suburbs residents lined the roads, creating a festive atmosphere that befitted the occasion. It was an unusually warm day in the normally temperate city as the temperature soared to 24°C (75.2°F) at its height. Ideal for spectators, but it made the going tough for the participants. To the delight of the spectators (and, okay, to the delight of the somewhat biased organisers too), Bantry AC’s Alan O’Shea won the race in 2:27:36. Alan was unbeaten in road races since February, including a tough Ballycotton 10 earlier in the year. He was the local favourite for the race, but what surprised many was how comfortably Alan took the step up to marathon running. Long may it continue and we all wish Alan many more successful races." |

| adidas Dublin Marathon | Ireland | | Dublin | Marathon | October | "This is the 31st year of the Lifestyle Sports - adidas Dublin Marathon, which is run through the historic Georgian streets of Dublin, Ireland's largest and capital city. Dublin is home to a quarter of the country's almost 4 million people. Though founded by the Vikings, it is now a vibrant, dynamic city where half of the population are under 25. Dublin is only an hour by air from most U.K. and European cities, and more than half of the expected entry of 10,000 will be made up of overseas runners, many of whom will be returning to sample Irish Hospitality once more. The reaction of many thousands of spectators lining the city streets for the event has been largely responsible for the success of marathon down through the years. It's no wonder that the Lifestyle Sports - adidas Dublin Marathon is internationally known as the 'Friendly Marathon'." |
