Spiridon Louis, a Greek water-carrier entered the Panathinaiko Stadium first of them all and won the race of 40 kilometers in slightly less than 3 hours. Crown Prince Constantine and Prince George rushed to meet him and accompanied him on his final lap for a finishing time of 2:58.50. A commemorative medal with a special ribbon and 8-page historical pamphlet is available, introduced by AIMS, the Association of International Marathons. All items are housed in a specially designed, gilded display box (see picture below) that is for sale at the Stockholm marathon expo at the price of 100 SEK." | ||
