The organisers are Galway brothers Paul and Richard Donovan, who have a unique combination of international experience as competitors and race directors.The first person to run a marathon at both the North and South Poles, Richard also recently broke the world record for running marathons on all seven continents (5 days 10 hours). An international ultra marathon runner, he has won races in extremes such as the Andes and Himalayan Mountains, the Amazon Jungle and Antarctica. As a race organiser and director, he operates the North Pole Marathon and Antarctic Ice Marathon, the northernmost and southernmost marathons in the world, respectively, and will also be launching a new Antarctic Triathlon and Duathlon. Richard was Race Director at the inaugural Commonwealth Championships 100km in September 2009." |
